Went following a funeral. Only went in the function room, food supplied was nice, only had coffee but that was good. Pleasent pub atmosphere.
Having stayed on countless occasions and having recommended this hotel over the last few years to numerous work colleagues and acquaintances I am reluctantly writing this review On the last two occasions I have booked at this hotel I have had my reservation cancelled on the afternoon of arrival (after 3pm) due to a supposed double booking although the owner Clive had checked his booking ledger days earlier and taken my booking Although it's a nice place to stay and the bar staff are always really nice I'm afraid that the management have no system in place to manage bookings professionaly or are more likely to favour someone staying more nights than what you have booked as I have witnessed before sat at the bar So to summarize if you are only wanting a short stay I suggest staying anywhere else but here and don't trust Clive when he says you are booked in Finally Clive if you double book anyone do the right thing and phone around to find them an alternative room somewhere else like a real hotelier would

Stayed for 1 night.Staff very friendly and welcoming.Main reason for posting a review is the lack of cleanliness of the bedrooms and toilets etc.Dust around room,mould around shower,drinks stains not wiped from bedside table.For a hotel with history and character it's such a shame the cleanliness of this let it down.
This was the first place I stayed in during my four week trip to the UK and Europe. The staff were amazing and super helpful. It was really well priced and the food was great. I had a great afternoon talking to the locals down in the pub and felt welcomed by everyone from the second I walked in. I will definitely be going back here if I ever make it to England again.
